Pink Shirt Day
The Student Senate at Chapleau Public School are a group of student leaders who strive for positive change in their school and community. Last week was Pink Shirt Day, a day to talk about kindness. Instead of just doing activities internally, they wanted to reach out to the community. They wanted to spread kindness all over Chapleau!
One of their initiatives was for each class (Kindergarten – Grade 12) to take a specific group in our community and do something special for them.

The Chapleau General Hospital Foundation thanks Northern Credit Union Chapleau branch for its recent donation of $1,000. This generous gift is a part of their Giving for Good program and will be going directly to the Recreation Department and Residents staying with us in Long term Care.

Rotary Donates $10,000 to Hospital Foundation in Chapleau
The Chapleau General Hospital Foundation thanks the Rotary Club of Chapleau for its recent donation of $10,000. This generous gift will go toward a lift designed to assist with patient and resident transfers.
"The lift benefits all residents living in our home who have mobility limitations. The lift safely transfers our residents from bed to chair to bath tub. It can also be used after a resident has sustained a fall to lift them back into bed or chair. This lift also supports the well-being of staff, by greatly reducing risk of strain injuries," said Long-Term Care Charge Nurse Brenda Bernier.

Legion Charitable Foundation Donates $12,000 to Hospital Foundation
The Chapleau General Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce a $12,000 donation from the Royal Canadian Legion Ontario Command Branches and Ladies' Auxiliaries Charitable Foundation, which helped the Hospital Foundation purchase a new Zoll R-Series Monitor Defibrillator as well as an Arjo Alenti Hygiene Lift with scale for Services de santé de Chapleau Health Services (SSCHS).
The R-Series defibrillator, which is used on both the acute floor and long-term care wing, helps SSCHS staff consistently deliver high-quality CPR and provide optimal defibrillation and pacing treatments for patients of all ages.

Newmont Donates $15,000 for Palliative Care Suite and Spiritual Space at SSCHS
Newmont Porcupine Gold Mines has donated $15,000 to the Chapleau General Hospital Foundation to create a new palliative care suite as well as a new spiritual space at Services de santé de Chapleau Health Services (SSCHS).
The addition of a second palliative suite at SSCHS will provide patients and their families a warm and welcoming space as they navigate the end-of-life journey, and SSCHS staff an appropriate setting to provide comfort and compassionate care.

CP Donates $5,000 Toward New Defibrillator for SSCHS
The Chapleau General Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce a $5,000 donation from Canadian Pacific (CP) towards a new Zoll R-Series Monitor Defibrillator - a life-saving piece of equipment for the acute floor and the long-term care (LTC) wing.
The donation was made possible through CP's Community Investment Program, CP Has Heart, which aims to improve the heart health of adults and children in communities across North America.

The Beer Store raises funds for Hospital Foundation
The Chapleau General Hospital Foundation would like to extend a sincere thank you to the employees of The Beer Store Chapleau for selecting us as a charity of choice for the empty bottle/can return initiative, which took place over the month of July.
Through the initiative, which included empty bottle/can returns and donations from customers, The Beer Store raised $411 for the Chapleau General Hospital Foundation.

Across the province, The Beer Store raised a total of over $258,800 for Ontario charities during this initiative.
Hospital Foundation hosts successful 9th Golf Classic
The Chapleau General Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce that we raised approximatey $15,600 at our 9th Golf Classic, held on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Kebsquasheshing Golf Club in Chapleau.
The Foundation's signature event brought out 76 players for a fun day of golf, socialising, prizes and awards. The occasion also marked one of the first larger gatherings in Chapleau since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gardening Project
We would like to express our sincere appreciation to Newmont Porcupine Gold Mines for sponsoring our gardening project with our Alternative Level of Care (ALC) patients this spring.
Newmont's donation enabled us to purchase soil and gardening tools and supplies to create five beautiful flower boxes with our ALC patients.

The Golf Classic: Our Signature Summer Event
Since the first Golf Classic in 2009, the event has become one of the Chapleau General Hospital Foundation's most anticipated and successful fundraisers.
Over the years we have raised over $96,000 And it's money well spent. Every dollar goes toward purchasing essential hospital equipment and funding key projects.
When you support the Golf Classic, you are making a direct positive impact on the health and well-being of Chapleau area residents and their families.
Each year we host the Golf Classic, we are fortunate to have the support of many generous donors and sponsors. They sponsor individual holes and contribute prizes for holes-in-one, longest putt, and special skills competitions. They also cover meals, green fees, and cash donations. We can't say thank you enough for their generosity.
Of course, no fundraising event would be a success without the hard work and enthusiasm of our amazing volunteers. We really couldn't do what we do without them. Thank you!
Finally, we are grateful to the golfers themselves. They show up year after year with smiling faces, ready for a fun-filled day of friendly competition. We love seeing new faces too!

SSCHS receives $85,000 COVID relief grant from CMA Foundation
Services de santé de Chapleau Health Services is pleased to announce that the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) Foundation has granted our Hospital Foundation $85,000 towards the purchase of a new washer/ disinfector and autoclave sterilizer for our Medical Device Reprocessing Department (MDRD), as well as four new isolation carts.
The new MDRD washer/disinfector and autoclave sterilizer will help keep our residents, patients, community, and staff safe from the introduction and spread of COVID and other infectious diseases as they are used to disinfect and sterilize medical equipment.

Donor commits $60,000 to Chapleau General Hospital Foundation
The Chapleau General Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce a $60,000 donation from an anonymous donor through the Sybil Anne Brake Fund of the Ottawa Community Foundation.
The donor was inspired to contribute to health care in the Chapleau area after watching the TVO documentary The Doctor Can See You Now, featuring Dr. Doris Mitchell.
The documentary explores Dr. Mitchell's journey to becoming a doctor through her studies at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, what it was like coming back to her home community to work, and the challenges faced by rural, northern health care providers.

Canadian Pacific donates $10,000 to For the Heart, From the Heart Campaign
Just in time for World Heart Day this Tuesday, September 29, the Chapleau General Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce a $10,000 donation from Canadian Pacific (CP) to our For the Heart, From the Heart Campaign.
The donation was made possible through CP's Community Investment Program CP Has Heart that provides funding from $500 to $50,000 to organizations that aim to improve the heart health of people in communities all over North America.

Collins Home Hardware Donates Patio Set to Hospital
Services de santé de Chapleau Health Services would like to extend a huge thank you to Collins Home Hardware for their donation of a patio set to the hospital.
Due to health and safety reasons related to the COVID-19 pandemic, our outdoor patio has only been available for use by our long-term care residents. The generous gift from Collins Home Hardware allowed us to set up a temporary space for our acute patients to also enjoy the outdoors over the summer months.

Catch the Ace is back!
The Chapleau General Hospital Foundation has re-launched our "Catch the Ace" progressive raffle with tickets on sale Thursday, September 3, 2020! This raffle is a fundraiser to help purchase a new telemetry machine for the hospital. Fifty per cent of all ticket sales will go towards this cause.
Tickets are $5 each and are available at 101 Gas Station, Pimii Kamik, Syd's Esso, Village Shops, and Formation Plus between Thursday morning and Wednesday at noon.

SSCHS raises $2,030 for food banks through #ChapleauStrong|Solidaire
T-shirt Campaign
Thanks to the community's support of the #ChapleauStrong T-shirt Campaign, and a generous purchase of 50 t-shirts from Newmont Porcupine Gold Mines, SSCHS was able to donate $2,030 in proceeds, divided between the two local food banks. SSCHS would like to thank everyone who supported this campaign. SSCHS initiated the campaign to assist the food banks during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Chapleau General Hospital Foundation has decided to cancel its 2020 Golf Classic due to the ongoing concerns related to COVID-19. We are going to host the event in summer 2021. Stay tuned for the date and other details.

The Caring Project
The local effort to replace furniture for Chapleau's long-term care residents is now complete.
The Chapleau General Hospital Foundation launched The Caring Project in December 2016 and successfully refurnished all 25 rooms at the Bignucolo Residence over the subsequent three years. Each room received a new low bed, mattress, dresser, wardrobe, and chair for our friends, neighbours, and family members in long-term care to enjoy.
We were able to reach our goal with thanks to United Way, various raffles, a yard sale, the Golf Classic, our first Oktoberfest in 2019, as well as many generous donations by community members.
The cost to replace the furniture in an entire suite is $7,100. Anyone who donated the full amount for a suite will have the room renamed in their honour. Donors will also be recognized in the main lobby of the Chapleau General Hospital on the Donor Recognition Wall. The Foundation is grateful for the community's ongoing support over the course of The Caring Project campaign.

Christmas Donations Help Bignucolo Residence and Foleyet Nursing Station
Over the holidays, residents of Chapleau and Foleyet gave generously to two local fundraising initiatives. A combined total of $5,712.88 was raised, a new record amount of Christmas giving for the area.
The Bignucolo Residence is Chapleau's only long-term care residence. The Caring Project will improve the quality of life for residents by replacing furniture in all twenty-five suites.
