Newmont Donates $15,000 for Palliative Care Suite and Spiritual Space at SSCHS
(Thursday, February 17, 2022, Chapleau, ON) Newmont Porcupine Gold Mines has donated $15,000 to the Chapleau General Hospital Foundation to create a new palliative care suite as well as a new spiritual space at Services de santé de Chapleau Health Services (SSCHS).
"Newmont Porcupine is pleased to support the Chapleau General Hospital Foundation in the refurbishing of a palliative care suite and designated quiet/spiritual space for residents and families," said Bryan Neeley, Manager of Sustainability and External Relations at Newmont Porcupine.
"Our workforce and host communities play a vital role in the success and strength of our operations. Developing healthcare infrastructure and investing in community healthcare services, we best express dedication to our values: creating value and improving lives through sustainable and responsible mining."
The addition of a second palliative suite at SSCHS will provide patients and their families a warm and welcoming space as they navigate the end-of-life journey, and SSCHS staff an appropriate setting to provide comfort and compassionate care.
The spiritual space will be a place for residents and their visitors to gather and practice their cultural and spiritual traditions in a home-like atmosphere.
"On behalf of the Chapleau General Hospital Foundation, I wish to thank Newmont for their generous donation. These two projects are going to improve the services provided at SSCHS and will enhance the well-being of our residents, patients, and their loved ones," said Luc Tessier, Hospital Foundation Chair. "We are very grateful for Newmont's continued support."
